An Evening Routine

Often people place importance on being productive in the morning and thus have great routines to match. There is this thought that early risers get more done and live happier, more fulfilling lives. They often meditate, have healthy breakfasts, go to the gym or go for a run and their day starts on a positive note. A morning routine is only the beginning of a productive day. What is often left out is the importance of the preceding evening on the next day’s productivity.

Most people have nothing specific to do in the evenings, so they treat it as an open and changing loop at the end of each day; sometimes used for late nights working, other times being spent in front of the TV. This however is not maximizing this precious time.

For entrepreneurs especially, it is a massive advantage to have an evening routine and manage it the same way they do their morning one. The main problem with an evening routine is that it requires you to set stricter structures for yourself; go home at a certain time and have a set bedtime so that you can be as productive as possible the next day.

Your evening routine is just that – yours. So do whatever works best for you, whether that be spending quality time with your family around the dinner table, practicing your newfound hobby, 30 minutes reading time for that new autobiography or even time spent researching trends for your business. The important part of your evening routine is that whatever you do, you do it consistently and you will find you achieve a lot more in that same time before the start of the new day.

Setting structures and guidelines for your evenings will keep you motivated, responsible and aware of how you spend this time. It will boost your productivity and output and importantly, it will shape how your next day goes. What you do each night will impact the next day, you can ensure success by having and sticking to your routine, or you can go to bed late and be tired, eat unhealthily and feel lethargic the following day. If you want to conquer today, start by fixing the night before.

"Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out." Robert Collie
